Amarillo shrugs off penalties, upends Topeka, 7-2Amarillo Sat, Jan 12, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Topeka RoadRunners failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Amarillo Bulls shook off a number of penalties to win, 7-2. Amarillo was led by Omar Mullan, who finished with one goal. Mullan scored 9:11 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Amarillo. Matt Sieckhaus assisted on the tally. The the Bulls penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and two majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. Amarillo had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Bulls' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Topeka power plays. Amarillo's goal total was higher than its season average. The Bulls average 4.3 goals per game. Amarillo additionally got points from Tyler Deresky, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Gage Christianson, who also registered one goal and one assist, Tyler Gernhofer, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Blake Roubos, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Ryan Cole, who also had one goal and one assist. Amarillo also got a goal from Tyler Rostenkowski as well. The RoadRunners' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Topeka gives up 2.4 goals per game. The RoadRunners were led by Jerad Tafoya, who tallied one goal. Tafoya scored short handed 4:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Topeka. Topeka was on a disadvantage when Brandon Brossoit went off the ice for holding. James Ring provided the assist. Kevin Patterson also scored for Topeka. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Dan Dupell and Peter Halash, who each chipped in one. Paul Berrafato recorded 18 saves for Amarillo. The Bulls registered two goals on five power play opportunities. For Amarillo, Garret Peterson was ejected from the game. The RoadRunners' starting goalie, Spencer Viele, made 13 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Mackenzie Sawyer, who stopped 10 shots.
