Jamestown holds on for 3-2 win against Soo

The Jamestown Ironmen survived a determined comeback attempt by the Soo Eagles on the way to a 3-2 win.

A goal by Luc Gerdes put Jamestown up 3-1 in the third period, but Soo pulled to within one on Alex Robert's tally 14:27 into the third period.

Gerdes was all over the ice for the Ironmen, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Gerdes scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:30 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Jamestown. A tripping penalty on Matt Menta had put Jamestown on the power play. Evan Ritt picked up the assist. Gerdes' next tally on the power play made the score Jamestown with 8:05 left in the third period. Ritt provided the assist.

The Ironmen were below their usual level of shot production, taking 19 shots compared to the 28.0 Jamestown averages. The defense for the Ironmen played an important role offensively, racking up eight shots on goal.

Jamestown also got points from Tyler Minx, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Jamestown were Ryan Doucet, who had one.

By firing 33 shots on goal, the Eagles exceeded the 28.3 shots they average per game this year.

Soo was helped by Jared VanWormer, who tallied one goal. VanWormer scored 14:38 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Jamestown. Eric Rivard assisted on the tally. In addition, Soo received assists from Brandon Adams, Michael Crowley, and Denver Pierce, who each chipped in one.

Jamestown's Tim Shaughnessy stopped 31 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Ironmen totaled 24 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Zach Nagelvoort made 16 saves for the Eagles on 19 shots. Soo totaled 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
