Fresno rides Haight to victory over Kenai River, 3-1

The Fresno Monsters relied on the sparkling performance of Macauley Haight in net to grab a 3-1 win against the Kenai River Brown Bears.

Fresno pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 28 penalty minutes.

The Monsters were paced by Matt Salituro, who finished with one goal. Salituro scored 13:48 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Fresno. Mitchell Snyder assisted on the tally.

Fresno put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Kenai River to score on any of its seven power plays.

Fresno also got a goal from Jacob McDowell as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fresno were Andrew Herlofsky, who had two and Karl Andersen and Kyle Sucher, who each chipped in one.

The Brown Bears' offense operated below they season average. Kenai River averages 3.1 goals per game. The defense for the Brown Bears played an important role offensively, racking up 17 shots on goal. Kenai River put 35 shots on net during the contest, more than the 22.9 it averages per game.

The Brown Bears were led by Brad LeLievre, who scored the team's only goal. LeLievre scored 15:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kenai River. Conor Deal picked up the assist.

Macauley Haight made 34 saves for the Monsters on 35 shots. Fresno registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Evan McCarthy rejected 13 shots on goal for Kenai River. The Brown Bears incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
