Corpus Christi wins tough contest against Texas, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Corpus Christi IceRays escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Texas Tornado.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Jalen Schulz at 9:21 of the second period.

Corpus Christi was paced by Schulz, who grabbed one goal.

By firing 29 shots on goal, the IceRays exceeded the 23.8 shots they average per game this year.

Corpus Christi additionally got points from Rudy Sulmonde, who also had one goal and one assist. Michael Economos also scored for Corpus Christi. Other players who recorded assists for Corpus Christi were Emil Romig, who had three and Trevor Heuser, John Roisum, Tommaso Bucci, and Wayland Williams, who each chipped in one.

Texas excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The 33 shots that the Tornado put on net surpassed Texas' average of 29.5 shots per game this season.

The Tornado were helped by Justin Greenberg, who registered one goal. Greenberg scored on the power play 1:26 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Texas had taken the advantage when Corpus Christi's Williams got sent off for hooking. Nick Neville assisted on the tally. Texas also got a goal from Andrew Mayer as well. In addition, Texas received assists from Scott Conway, who had one.

Ben Myers rejected 31 shots on goal for the IceRays. Corpus Christi incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Tornado's Hunter Leisner stopped 25 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Texas incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
