Fairbanks beats Fresno 5-4 after comeback scareSelland Arena Sat, Dec 29, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Fairbanks Ice Dogs survived a determined comeback attempt by the Fresno Monsters on the way to a 5-4 win. Fairbanks made the score 5-3 on a goal by Devin Loe at 14:06 in the third period, and Fresno got as close as 5-4 when Matt Salituro scored 18:22 into the third period. The Ice Dogs were led by Loe, who registered one goal. Fairbanks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The 40 shots that the Ice Dogs put on net surpassed Fairbanks' average of 29.4 shots per game this season. Fairbanks also got a goal from Johnny Meuller as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fairbanks were Garret Clemment, Colton Wolter, Patrick Newell, and Nick Hinz, who each chipped in one and Chandler Madry, Zack Rall, and Lonnie Clary, who contributed two a piece. The Monsters stifled the Ice Dogs' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Fresno was helped by Mitchell Snyder, who had one goal. Snyder scored 1:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fresno. Andrew Herlofsky provided the assist. Fresno additionally got points from Salituro, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jacob McDowell also scored for Fresno. In addition, Fresno received assists from Ian Janco, Kyle Sucher, and Trevor Husch, who each chipped in one. Fairbanks' Steve Perry stopped 17 shots out of the 21 that he faced. The Ice Dogs incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Macauley Haight rejected 35 shots on goal for the Monsters. Fresno ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
