Wenatchee rolls over Kenai River, 5-2Town Toyota Center Sat, Dec 29, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wenatchee Wild had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over the Kenai River Brown Bears. Wenatchee forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 27.0 minutes per game the Wild had been spending in the box. Wenatchee's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Kenai River power plays. With 32 shots on target during the contest, the Wild exceeded the 28.4 shots they average per game this year. Wenatchee was helped by Jono Davis, who grabbed one goal. Davis scored 5:16 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wenatchee. Jacob Barber picked up the assist. Wenatchee also got a goal from Nathan Flynn as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wenatchee were Chris Kerr, Brian Williams, and Trace Redmond, who contributed one a piece and David Powlowski, Blake Roubos, and Dylan Abood, who each chipped in two. Kenai River put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Wild to score on any of their three power plays. The Brown Bears were helped by Matt Seidel, who registered one goal. Seidel scored 13:02 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Wenatchee. Brad Duwe assisted on the tally. Matthew Meier also scored for Kenai River. In addition, Kenai River received assists from Conor Deal and Bryan Hodges, who contributed one a piece. Robert Nichols rejected 19 shots on goal for Wenatchee. The Wild ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Powlowski was ejected from the game. Kenai River's starting goalie, Evan McCarthy, made one save and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Gustaf Johansson, who stopped 26 shots. The Brown Bears ended with 31 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. For Kenai River, Ryan Walker and Brad LeLievre were ejected from the contest.
