Kenai River hangs on, beats Wenatchee 5-3Town Toyota Center Fri, Dec 28, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Kenai River Brown Bears took the lead against the Wenatchee Wild in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 5-3 victory. Kenai River took over the lead for good with a goal by Matt Seidel at 6:03 in the first period.The Brown Bears were led by Brad Duwe, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Duwe scored on the power play 17:59 into the first period to make the score 4-2 Kenai River. A cross checking penalty on Chris Jones had put Kenai River on the power play. Jacob Davidson provided the assist. The the Brown Bears penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Kenai River surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Kenai River also got points from Alex Jackstadt, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Kenai River also got a goal from Alec Butcher as well. More assists for Kenai River came via Vincent Stefan, Jake Bushey, and Judd Loewenstein, who contributed one a piece. Wenatchee's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Wild are averaging 2.3 goals against for the season. The 33 shots that Wenatchee put on net surpassed the Wild's average of 29.1 shots per game this season. Wenatchee's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Wild finished with 20 penalty minutes. Wenatchee was helped by Trace Redmond, who racked up one goal. Redmond scored 7:54 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Kenai River. Joshua Hartley assisted on the tally. Jacob Barber also scored for Wenatchee. In addition, Wenatchee received assists from Dillon Eichstadt, who had two and Evan Schmidbauer and David Powlowski, who each chipped in one. Gustaf Johansson recorded 30 saves for the Brown Bears. Kenai River registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. The Wild's Robert Nichols stopped 19 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Wenatchee registered two goals on five power play opportunities.
