Minot uses shootout to best Brookings, 4-3 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Minot Minotauros defeated the Brookings Blizzard in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. In addition to the clincher, Minot got a shootout goal from Cameron Rowat.

The Minotauros came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Minot trailed 3-1 after a power play goal by Brookings' Thomas Williams at 9:35 in the third period. The Minotauros knotted things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Jake OBorsky at 13:57 in the third period.

OBorsky was all over the ice for Minot, as he grabbed two goals in the win.

The Minotauros were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game Minot had been spending in the box. The Minotauros' defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 10 shots between them.

Collin Abitz also scored for Minot. More assists for Minot came via David Dalbec, Jake McCann, Tim Donohue, and Mason Morelli, who each chipped in one.

With 37 shots on target during the contest, the Blizzard exceeded the 22.8 shots they average per game this year.

Brookings was helped by Tyler Cayemberg, who tallied one goal. Cayemberg scored 1:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Brookings. Jared Docken provided the assist. Brookings also got a goal from Eric Brenk as well. In addition, Brookings received assists from Justin Moody, Jordan Stejskal, James McGing, Matt Youso, and Connor Andrle, who contributed one a piece.

Tyler Parks rejected 34 shots on goal for Minot. The Minotauros registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Drew Weigman recorded 20 saves for the Blizzard. Brookings totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-7 on the power play.
