Fairbanks outlasts Kenai River, 3-2Big Dipper Ice Arena Fri, Dec 14, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Fairbanks Ice Dogs gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Kenai River Brown Bears. No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Garret Clemment at 20:00 of the third period. Fairbanks was led by Clemment, who finished with one goal. The Ice Dogs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Kenai River to score on any of its five power plays. Fairbanks failed to reach its usual level of shot production, putting 22 pucks on goal after averaging 28.8 shots per game this season. Fairbanks also got points from Devin Loe, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Fairbanks also got a goal from Patrick Newell as well. More assists for Fairbanks came via Doug Rose, Kyle Lee, Ben Campbell, Zack Rall, and Jayson Angus, who each chipped in one. The Brown Bears were below their usual level of shot production, taking 16 shots compared to the 24.2 Kenai River averages. The defensemen of the Brown Bears were also effective in the Ice Dogs' zone, and came away with two goals. Kenai River was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 30 penalty minutes. The Brown Bears were helped by Jake Bushey, who grabbed one goal. Bushey scored 5:50 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Kenai River. Zac Lazzaro picked up the assist. Carson Vance also scored for Kenai River. Other players who recorded assists for Kenai River were Alec Butcher, Dylan Meier, and Alex Jackstadt, who contributed one a piece. Fairbanks' Kevin Aldridge stopped 14 shots out of the 16 that he faced. The Ice Dogs incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Gustaf Johansson made 19 saves for Kenai River on 22 shots.
