Wenatchee vanquishes Jamestown in shootout, 5-4 (2-1 SO)Town Toyota Center Sat, Dec 08, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Wenatchee Wild defeated the Jamestown Ironmen in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO). The shootout lasted for 22 attempts between the teams. Jamestown got a shootout goal from Luc Gerdes. Wenatchee's other shootout goal was scored by Noah Nelson.The Wild overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Wenatchee trailed 4-2 after a goal by the Ironmen's Nathan Ropelewski at 7:51 in the third period. The Wild tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Jono Davis at 19:43 in the third period. Davis had two goals to lead Wenatchee to victory. The Wild's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Wenatchee finished with 27 penalty minutes. With 40 shots on target during the contest, the Wild exceeded the 28.0 shots they average per game this year. Wenatchee also got points from Max McHugh, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Evan Schmidbauer also scored for Wenatchee. In addition, Wenatchee received assists from Joshua Hartley, who had two and Chris Jones, Nelson, Jacob Barber, and Tyler Bruneteau, who contributed one a piece. The Jamestown penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The Ironmen surpassed its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. Jamestown was below its usual level of shot production, taking 22 shots compared to the 28.1 the Ironmen average. Jamestown's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Ironmen are averaging 2.5 goals against for the season. Jamestown's offense was helped by the efforts of its defensemen, who managed to put 10 shots on net during the game. The Ironmen were helped by Dylan Zink, who tallied one goal. Zink scored 9:16 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Jamestown. Jamestown additionally got points from Nicholas Sierra, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points.
