Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Minot Minotauros defeated the Austin Bruins in a shootout 2-1 (1-0 SO). The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams.Austin was stymied by Minot netminder Tyler Parks, who stopped 29 shots during the victory. Parks managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.71 prior to the game. The Minotauros could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game. Minot was led by Matt Audette, who grabbed one goal. Audette scored on the power play 9:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Minot. The Minotauros had gained a power play chance when AJ Reid was whistled for high sticking. Scott Dornbrock provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Minot were Stephen Sherman, who had one. The Bruins racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 51 minutes in penalty time. Austin surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. The Bruins were held below their usual level of production. Austin puts an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game. More assists for Austin came via Cody Dixon, who had one. Minot registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Bruins' Nicholas Lehr stopped 22 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Austin registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
