Johnstown beats Jamestown 5-3 after comeback scare

The Johnstown Tomahawks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Jamestown Ironmen on the way to a 5-3 win.

Johnstown took a 5-2 lead during the third period, only to have Jamestown storm back on a Dylan Zink goal 16:45 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

Brandon Reinholz had a great game for the Tomahawks, netting two goals. Reinholz found the back of the net on the power play 4:56 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Johnstown and again while on the power play 17:29 into the second to make the score 3-1 Johnstown.

Johnstown was effective with a man advantage, and put in four goals while on the power play. The Tomahawks got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Johnstown's offense was clicking better than usual and put 34 shots on goal during the game, better than the 25.0 shots per game it averages.

Johnstown additionally got points from Casey Nelson, who also registered one goal and two assists. Jeff Bergh also scored for Johnstown. In addition, Johnstown received assists from Jake Fairchild, who had one and Cody Gylling, who had three.

The Ironmen racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 14.0 minutes per game Jamestown had been spending in the box. The Ironmen's normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Jamestown is averaging 2.4 goals against for the season. The Ironmen put 33 shots on net during the contest, more than the 28.6 they average per game.

Jamestown was helped by Evan Ritt, who tallied one goal. Ritt scored on the power play 14:43 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Ironmen had gained a power play chance when Ian Spencer was whistled for hooking. Zink provided the assist. Jamestown also got points from Zink, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jamestown also got a goal from Ross Pavek as well. More assists for Jamestown came via Nicholas Sierra and Kenny Curtis, who contributed one a piece.

Chris Truehl made 30 saves for the Tomahawks on 33 shots. Johnstown ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. Jamestown's Reid Mimmack stopped 29 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Ironmen registered one goal on one power play opportunities.
