Wichita Falls rips Kenai River, 6-2

The Wichita Falls Wildcats had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-2 win over the Kenai River Brown Bears.

Ben Kucera was all over the ice for Wichita Falls, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Kucera scored 19:57 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wichita Falls. Kyle Bauman assisted on the tally.

The Wildcats' penalty kill excelled, as Wichita Falls gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

The Wildcats were often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and two majors for 28 minutes in penalty time. Wichita Falls surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. The Wildcats found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Wichita Falls averages 2.5 goals per game. The Wildcats' offense was clicking better than usual and put 36 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27.5 shots per game they average.

Wichita Falls also got points from Eliot Grauer, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Bauman, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. O'Neal L also scored for Wichita Falls. In addition, Wichita Falls received assists from Will Vosejpka, who had one and Chris Knudson and Colin Staub, who each chipped in two.

Kenai River forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and two majors for 26 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game the Brown Bears had been spending in the box. Kenai River's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Wichita Falls power plays. By firing 30 shots on goal, the Brown Bears exceeded the 24.6 shots they average per game this year.

Kenai River was led by Alex Jackstadt, who racked up one goal and one assist. Jackstadt scored on the power play 19:46 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Wichita Falls. The Brown Bears had gotten the advantage when Wichita Falls' McFarlanne B was sent off for interference. Jake Bushey provided the assist. Kenai River also got a goal from Alec Butcher as well. More assists for Kenai River came via Ryan Walker and Albin Karlsson, who contributed one a piece.

Evan Cowley rejected 28 shots on goal for the Wildcats. Kenai River's starting goalie, Sean Healy, made 24 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Gustaf Johansson, who stopped six shots.
