Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Port Huron Fighting Falcons defeated the Michigan Warriors in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO). The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams.Port Huron stifled Michigan's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Fighting Falcons were helped by Mitch Maloney, who racked up one goal. Maloney scored 2:25 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Port Huron. Zach Badalamenti picked up the assist. Daniel Rehnstrom also scored for Port Huron. More assists for Port Huron came via Ryan Nick and Taylor Fernandez, who each chipped in one. The Warriors put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Port Huron to score on any of its three power plays. Michigan's offense was clicking better than usual and put 46 shots on goal during the game, better than the 25.6 shots per game it averages. The Warriors were helped by Brock Labelle, who had one goal. Labelle scored 19:38 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Port Huron. Darren McCormick assisted on the tally. Michigan also got a goal from Martin Gruse as well. In addition, Michigan received assists from Corey Schueneman, Mitchell Wedding, AJ Marcinek, and Jon Farkas, who contributed one a piece. Max Milosek recorded 43 saves for the Fighting Falcons. Port Huron incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Michigan's Dillion Kelley stopped 18 shots out of the 21 that he faced. The Warriors incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
