Huge game by Rivard boosts Soo over Springfield, 5-2

Behind a great game by Eric Rivard, who had one goal and two assists, the Soo Eagles defeated the Springfield Jr. Blues, 5-2.

Rivard scored 8:19 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Soo. Jared VanWormer assisted on the tally. Rivard dished an assist on Cody Von Reuden's goal that made the score 1-0 Soo at 45 seconds into the first period. He added another helper on Michael Lant's goal that made the score 5-2 Soo at 15:28 into the third period.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. With 51 shots on target during the contest, Soo exceeded the 26.3 shots it averages per game this year.

Alexander Taulien also scored for Soo. In addition, Soo received assists from Michael Covach, Matt Menta, and Denver Pierce, who contributed one a piece.

Springfield's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Soo power plays. The Jr. Blues' offense was clicking better than usual and put 42 shots on goal during the game, better than the 29.4 shots per game they average.

Springfield was helped by Alex Baskakov, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Baskakov scored 13:13 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Soo. Nate Chasteen picked up the assist. Springfield also got points from Chasteen, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Springfield came via Terry Leibo and Brett Skibba, who each chipped in one.

Zach Nagelvoort recorded 40 saves for the Eagles. Soo incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Ryan Kellenberger rejected 46 shots on goal for the Jr. Blues. Springfield incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
