The Brookings Blizzard relied on the scoring touch of Cody Marooney, who netted two goals, to beat the Minot Minotauros, 3-1. Marooney's tallies came on the power play at 6:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Brookings and 14:34 into the third to make the score 2-1 Brookings.Brookings' penalty kill excelled, as the Blizzard gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays. Brookings stifled Minot's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Blizzard relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Thomas Williams, Nick DeCenzo and Marooney took 22 of the team's 41 shots. Brookings could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 32 minutes in penalties during the game. Brookings additionally got points from Williams, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Brookings came via Craig Lindegard, who had one. The Minotauros could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game. Minot was led by Collin Abitz, who scored the team's only goal. Abitz scored 17:54 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Matt Audette picked up the assist. The Blizzard's Drew Weigman stopped 21 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Brookings registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Tyler Parks recorded 38 saves for the Minotauros.
