Corpus Christi outlasts Kenai River, 3-2Soldotna Sports Center Sat, Nov 03, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Corpus Christi IceRays gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Kenai River Brown Bears. Corpus Christi gained the winning advantage on a goal by Eric Purcell 18:02 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. The IceRays got the win with help from a great game by Purcell, who had two goals and one assist. Purcell scored the first of his two goals at 7:55 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Corpus Christi. Emil Romig assisted on the tally. Purcell's next tally made the score 3-2 Corpus Christi with 1:58 left in the third period. Corpus Christi earned a power play opportunity when Ryan Walker was put in the box for holding. Rudy Sulmonde provided the assist. The IceRays stifled Kenai River's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Corpus Christi's offense was clicking better than usual and put 41 shots on goal during the game, better than the 26.9 shots per game it averages. Corpus Christi also got a goal from Perry DArrisso as well. Other players who recorded assists for Corpus Christi were Brandon Smith, who had one and AJ Jarosz, who had two. The IceRays were unable to stop the Brown Bears from sending pucks towards the net, and Kenai River eventually piled up 45 shots on goal. The Brown Bears were helped by Zack Zulkanycz, who tallied one goal. Zulkanycz scored 11:57 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Brad LeLievre assisted on the tally. Alex Jackstadt also scored for Kenai River. More assists for Kenai River came via Conor Deal, Dylan Meier, and Albin Karlsson, who each chipped in one. Corpus Christi's Hayden Stewart stopped 43 shots out of the 45 that he faced. The IceRays incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Sean Healy made 38 saves for Kenai River on 41 shots. The Brown Bears incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
