Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Austin Bruins defeated the Coulee Region Chill in a shootout 3-2 (3-2 SO). The two teams needed 14 turns to complete the shootout. Coulee Region's shootout goals were scored by Jake Kauppila and Andy Faust. Austin's other shootout goals were scored by Brandon Wahlin and CJ Smith.The Bruins came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Austin trailed 2-0 after a goal by the Chill's Hunter Anderson at 3:42 in the third period. The Bruins knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Smith at 13:48 in the third period. Austin was sparked by Zach Johnson, who grabbed one goal. Johnson scored 12:38 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Coulee Region. Scott Nelson assisted on the tally. The Bruins stifled Coulee Region's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 46 shots that Austin put on net surpassed the Bruins' average of 26.9 shots per game this season. In addition, Austin received assists from Austin Nelson, John Simonson, and Riley Colvard, who contributed one a piece. The Chill put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Austin to score on any of its four power plays. Coulee Region put 34 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.9 it averages per game. Other players who recorded assists for Coulee Region were Kauppila, who had one and Faust, who had two. The Bruins' Nicholas Lehr stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Austin incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Aaron Davis made 43 saves for the Chill on 45 shots. Coulee Region incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
