Johnstown blows out Kalamazoo, 6-2Blue Rink Sun, Oct 28, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings had trouble finding ways to stop the Johnstown Tomahawks, which beat Jr. K-Wings, 6-2. Johnstown surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Tomahawks average 3.4 goals per contest. Johnstown's offense was clicking better than usual and put 35 shots on goal during the game, better than the 25.5 shots per game it averages. The Tomahawks were led by Jordan Watt, who had two goals. Watt scored the first of his two goals at 18:02 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Cody Gylling provided the assist. Watt's next tally made the score 2-1 Johnstown with 10 seconds left in the first period. Gylling assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Johnstown included Mitch Kontny, who had two and Andrew McDonald and Brandon Reinholz, who each put in one. More assists for Johnstown came via Jaycob McCombs, Zack Wallace, Jeff Bergh, and Chris Truehl, who contributed one a piece and Casey Nelson and Jesse Kessler, who each chipped in two. Johnstown was unable to stop Kalamazoo from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jr. K-Wings eventually piled up 43 shots on goal. Kalamazoo was helped by Nick Kovalchik, who grabbed one goal. Kovalchik scored on the power play 13:50 into the second period to make the score 2-2. The Jr. K-Wings had gotten the advantage when the Tomahawks' Reinholz was sent off for tripping. Brett Beauvais provided the assist. Kalamazoo also got points from Taylor Burden, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Kalamazoo received assists from Danny Hamburg and Luc Boby, who contributed one a piece. Truehl recorded 41 saves for Johnstown. The Tomahawks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Kalamazoo's Alex Okicki stopped 29 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Jr. K-Wings incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
