Corpus Christi holds on for 3-1 win against FairbanksBig Dipper Ice Arena Sat, Oct 27, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Corpus Christi IceRays survived a determined comeback attempt by the Fairbanks Ice Dogs on the way to a 3-1 win. A goal by Emil Romig put Corpus Christi up 3-0 in the third period, but Fairbanks pulled to within two on Niklas Mayrhauser's tally 13:22 into the third period. The IceRays' Hayden Stewart was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 26 saves and let only one puck past him. Stewart managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.4 prior to the game. Corpus Christi's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Fairbanks power plays. The IceRays put 38 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.5 they average per game. Corpus Christi was helped by Eric Purcell, who finished with one goal. Purcell scored 1:09 into the third period to make the score 2-0 Corpus Christi. Perry DArrisso picked up the assist. Corpus Christi also got a goal from AJ Jarosz as well. Other players who recorded assists for Corpus Christi were Joe Ginley, who had two and Michael Economos and Ryan Chiasson, who each chipped in one. The the Ice Dogs penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Fairbanks had been averaging 14.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Ice Dogs' offense operated below they season average. Fairbanks puts an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game. More assists for Fairbanks came via Devin Loe and Jayson Angus, who contributed one a piece. The IceRays totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. Steve Perry recorded 35 saves for the Ice Dogs.
