Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Fairbanks Ice Dogs defeated the Corpus Christi IceRays in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO). The two teams needed nine turns to complete the shootout.Fairbanks got the win thanks to a great game by Devin Loe, who had one goal and two assists. Loe scored 27 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-2 Fairbanks. Nick Hinz picked up the assist. The Ice Dogs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Corpus Christi to score on any of its four power plays. Fairbanks put 34 shots on net during the contest, more than the 27.7 it averages per game. Fairbanks additionally got points from Jayson Angus, who also registered one goal and one assist. Fairbanks also got a goal from Duggie Lagrone as well. In addition, Fairbanks received assists from Colton Wolter, Brett Gervais, Zack Rall, and Lonnie Clary, who each chipped in one. The IceRays' offense rang up 38 shots on the Ice Dogs' net. Corpus Christi was helped by Brandon Berkley, who racked up one goal. Berkley scored 16:21 into the third period to make the score 4-4. Tommaso Bucci provided the assist. Corpus Christi also got points from Bucci, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. AJ Jarosz also scored for Corpus Christi. Other players who recorded assists for Corpus Christi were Ian McGilvrey, who had two and Rudy Sulmonde, Michael Economos, Charles Baldwin, Wayland Williams, and Roman Uchyn, who contributed one a piece. Kevin Aldridge rejected 34 shots on goal for Fairbanks. The Ice Dogs incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Hayden Stewart recorded 29 saves for the IceRays. Corpus Christi incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
