Aberdeen falls to Austin after surprising comeback

The Austin Bruins climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Aberdeen Wings, 4-3.

Austin let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Bruins took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Brandon Wahlin at 7:24 in the first period. Austin went down 3-1 after Aberdeen's Tyler Cisar put the puck home at 14:55 in the second period. After tying things up at 3-3 on a goal by Cody Dixon at 3:07 in the third, the Bruins got the game-winner from Jay Dickman at 6:07 in the third period.

Wahlin was all over the ice for Austin, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win.

The Bruins' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Austin finished with 21 penalty minutes. The Bruins' defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 15 shots between them. The 35 shots that Austin put on net surpassed the Bruins' average of 25.4 shots per game this season.

Austin also got points from John Simonson, who also had one goal and one assist and Dickman, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Austin were Nolan Kirley, AJ Reid, and Easton Viitala, who contributed one a piece.

The Wings kept Austin's goalie busy throughout the game, and Nicholas Lehr made 42 saves on 45 shots.

Aberdeen also got a goal from Tommy Miller as well. More assists for Aberdeen came via Mike Parnell and Zach Kraft, who each chipped in one and Steven Johnson and Jordan Heller, who contributed two a piece.

The Bruins registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Jared Stearns made 31 saves for Aberdeen on 35 shots. The Wings totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play.
