Springfield wins tough contest against Janesville, 5-3Nelson Center Fri, Oct 26, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Springfield Jr. Blues gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Janesville Jets. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Nate Chasteen secured the win for Springfield with a goal in the third period. Chasteen had a great game for the Jr. Blues, netting two goals. Springfield's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Janesville power plays. The Jr. Blues found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Springfield has scored at the pace of 2.9 goals per game during the current campaign. By firing 42 shots on goal, the Jr. Blues exceeded the 29.3 shots they average per game this year. Springfield additionally got points from James McGing, who also racked up two goals and one assist to lead the team in points and Ryan Atkinson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Springfield received assists from Jack Sloan, who had one and Parker Johnson, Simon Koscielski, and Mike Fazio, who each chipped in two. Janesville kept Springfield's goalie busy throughout the game, and Matt Leon made 35 saves on 38 shots. The Jets were helped by Jason Ford, who registered one goal. Ford scored 6:43 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Springfield. Kucerovy provided the assist. Janesville also got points from Kucerovy, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Janesville also got a goal from Jordan Himley as well. Other players who recorded assists for Janesville were Mike Sullivan, who had one. The Jr. Blues incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Brock Kautz took the loss and made 35 saves before being replaced by Austin Priebe who made two saves. Janesville incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
