The Austin Bruins survived a determined comeback attempt by the Brookings Blizzard on the way to a 3-2 win. A goal by John Simonson put Austin up 3-1 in the third period, but Brookings pulled to within one on Micah Ranum's tally 19:44 into the third period. Brandon Wahlin had one goal and two assists to lead the Bruins. Wahlin scored 10:02 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Austin. Austin Nelson assisted on the tally. Austin's offense was clicking better than usual and put 31 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.4 shots per game it averages. Cody Dixon also scored for Austin. Other players who recorded assists for Austin were AJ Reid, Riley Colvard, and Scott Nelson, who each chipped in one. The Blizzard forced the Bruins goalie Jason Pawloski to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Brookings also got a goal from Thomas Williams as well. More assists for Brookings came via Justin Moody, who had two and Drew Brevig and Nick DeCenzo, who contributed one a piece. Jason Pawloski made 30 saves for Austin on 32 shots. The Bruins totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Drew Weigman rejected 28 shots on goal for Brookings. The Blizzard totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play.
