Fairbanks vanquishes Fresno in shootout, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Fairbanks Ice Dogs defeated the Fresno Monsters in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams.

Fairbanks put 37 shots on net during the contest, more than the 28.1 it averages per game.

The Ice Dogs were helped by Jacob Hetz, who grabbed one goal. Hetz scored 13:22 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Fairbanks. Colton Wolter picked up the assist. Fairbanks also got a goal from Duggie Lagrone as well. In addition, Fairbanks received assists from Logan Wendling, Ryan McNeely, Kyle Lee, Zack Rall, and Lonnie Clary, who contributed one a piece.

Fresno managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Monsters finished below its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. Fresno relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Kyle Sucher, Karl Andersen and Mitchell Snyder took 12 of the team's 23 shots.

Fresno additionally got points from Mikhail Bushinski, who also had one goal and one assist and Sean Kalbak, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Fresno came via Mark Bittner, Andrew Herlofsky, Dan Sherer, and Zack Holstrom, who each chipped in one.

Steve Perry rejected 20 shots on goal for Fairbanks. The Ice Dogs incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Macauley Haight recorded 33 saves for the Monsters. Fresno registered one goal on two power play opportunities.
