Fairbanks uses shootout to best Wenatchee, 5-4 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Fairbanks Ice Dogs defeated the Wenatchee Wild in a shootout 5-4 (3-2 SO).

The shootout lasted for 12 attempts between the teams. Wenatchee's shootout goals were scored by Blake Roubos and Max McHugh. Fairbanks also got shootout goals from Kyle Lee and Garret Clemment.

The Ice Dogs were paced by Lee, who grabbed one goal. Lee scored 13:32 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Fairbanks. Clemment assisted on the tally.

In the losing effort, the Wild were led by Jono Davis, who racked up two goals and one assist. Davis scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 46 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Noah Nelson provided the assist. Davis' next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Fairbanks with 3:11 left in the second period. Wenatchee had gained a power play chance when Jacob Hetz was whistled for elbowing. Nathan Flynn assisted on the tally.

Fairbanks' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in three goals to the Wild's power play unit.

Doug Rose also scored for Fairbanks. Other players who recorded assists for Fairbanks were Patrick Newell, who had two and Duggie Lagrone and Logan Wendling, who contributed one a piece.

Wenatchee put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Ice Dogs to score on any of their three power plays. By firing 31 shots on goal, the Wild exceeded the 25.6 shots they average per game this year.

Wenatchee also got a goal from Roubos as well. More assists for Wenatchee came via Joshua Hartley, Derick Kuchera, Tyler Bruneteau, and McHugh, who each chipped in one.

Kevin Aldridge made 27 saves for Fairbanks on 31 shots. The Ice Dogs ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Evan McCarthy made 10 saves before being replaced by Robert Nichols, who took the otl and made eight saves. Wenatchee ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major.
