Austin outlasts Aberdeen, 5-3

The game between the Austin Bruins and the Aberdeen Wings was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Austin emerged with a 5-3 win.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Riley Colvard's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Colvard had a great game for the Bruins, netting two goals.

Austin excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Bruins' offense was clicking better than usual and put 45 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27.3 shots per game they average.

Austin additionally got points from Cody Dixon, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, John Simonson, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Brandon Wahlin, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Austin came via Chris Fischer and CJ Smith, who contributed one a piece.

The Aberdeen penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The Wings had been averaging 17.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Aberdeen was helped by Joseph Sullivan, who had one goal and one assist. Sullivan scored 4:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Aberdeen. Peter Krieger provided the assist. Aberdeen also got points from Krieger, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Heinz Koster also scored for Aberdeen. In addition, Aberdeen received assists from Steven Johnson, Justin Parizek, and Tyler Cisar, who each chipped in one.

Nicholas Lehr recorded 21 saves for Austin. The Bruins totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. The Wings' Marcus Zelzer stopped 40 shots out of the 45 that he faced.
