Marble stymies Port Huron, Soo wins 2-1

Tyler Marble stood on his head and made 31 saves to lead the Soo Eagles to a 2-1 victory over the Port Huron Fighting Falcons.

Soo was paced by Michael Covach, who racked up one goal. Covach scored on the power play 19:05 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Soo. The Eagles had gained a power play chance when Easton Powers was whistled for holding. Jared VanWormer picked up the assist.

Soo stifled Port Huron's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. With 36 shots on target during the contest, the Eagles exceeded the 26.5 shots they average per game this year.

Soo additionally got points from VanWormer, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Soo were Kyle Froese and Eric Rivard, who each chipped in one.

The Fighting Falcons' offense operated below they season average. Port Huron averages 3.2 goals per game. The Fighting Falcons forced Soo goalie Marble to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Port Huron was led by Vito Aluia, who scored the team's only goal. Aluia scored 7:40 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Port Huron. Ryan Nick assisted on the tally.

The Eagles incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Fighting Falcons' Alex Blankenburg stopped 34 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Port Huron incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
