Brookings falls to Coulee Region after surprising comeback

The Coulee Region Chill climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Brookings Blizzard, 6-5.

Coulee Region let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Chill took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Cory Lushanko at 6:44 in the first period. Coulee Region found itself down 4-2 after Brookings' Nick DeCenzo put the puck home on the power play at 9:32 in the second period. After tying things up at 5-5 on a goal by Drew Brevig at 17:09 in the third, the Chill got the game-winner from Travis Underwood at 19:37 in the third period.

Coulee Region outdid its season average for goals scored. The Chill have scored at the pace of 3.0 goals per game during the current campaign. With 39 shots on target during the contest, Coulee Region exceeded the 25.5 shots it averages per game this year.

The Chill were led by Mac Jansen, who tallied three goals and two assists. Coulee Region additionally got points from Underwood, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Jesse Tredinnick, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Coulee Region received assists from Garrett Hendrickson, who had three and Brady Riesgraf and Aleksi Mustaniemi, who contributed one a piece.

The Blizzard found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Brookings averages 2.9 goals per contest. The Blizzard's normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Brookings gives up 2.3 goals per game. The Blizzard put 34 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.0 they average per game.

Brookings was helped by Emil Blomqvist, who finished with one goal and two assists. Blomqvist scored 17:38 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Coulee Region. Cody Marooney provided the assist. Brookings also got points from Justin Moody, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Brevig, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Jeff McFarland, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Brookings were Thomas Williams, who had one.

Aaron Davis recorded 29 saves for Coulee Region. The Chill totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. The Blizzard's Drew Weigman stopped 33 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Brookings incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
