Minot uses shootout to best Fresno, 2-1 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Minot Minotauros defeated the Fresno Monsters in a shootout 2-1 (3-2 SO).

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. Fresno's shootout goals were scored by Newton Fuller and Mikhail Bushinski. In addition to the clincher, Minot got shootout goals from Ryan Doner and Cameron Rowat.

The Minotauros were led by goalie Ryan Ruck, who finished with 26 saves while allowing one goal. Ruck certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.14 entering the contest.

By firing 36 shots on goal, Minot exceeded the 19.9 shots it averages per game this year.

The Minotauros were led by Jake McCann, who registered one goal. McCann scored 9:43 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Minot. Jake Clifford provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Minot were Joe Hall, who had one.

The Monsters stifled Minot's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. With 27 shots on target during the contest, Fresno exceeded the 23.5 shots it averages per game this year.

The Monsters were led by James Mathias, who scored the team's only goal. Mathias scored on the power play 6:35 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Fresno earned a power play opportunity when Clifford was put in the box for kneeing. Drew Aspinwall picked up the assist.

The Minotauros incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Tomas Sholl made 34 saves for the Monsters on 35 shots. Fresno totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
