Viele stymies Corpus Christi, Topeka wins 3-1

Spencer Viele had a standout game with 28 saves, and the Topeka RoadRunners beat the Corpus Christi IceRays 3-1.

Topeka pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 29 penalty minutes.

The RoadRunners were led by Sean Gaffney, who tallied one goal. Gaffney scored 19:26 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Topeka. Kyle Sharkey picked up the assist.

Topeka's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Corpus Christi power plays.

Topeka also got points from Sharkey, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Topeka also got a goal from Dan Dupell as well. In addition, Topeka received assists from Luke Veitch, Michal Pastor, and James Ring, who each chipped in one.

Corpus Christi put 29 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.8 it averages per game.

The IceRays were led by Eric Purcell, who scored the team's only goal. Purcell scored 3:49 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Michael Economos assisted on the tally.

The RoadRunners registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Dillon Kelley made 19 saves for Corpus Christi on 22 shots. The IceRays ended with 31 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major.
