Soo survives Michigan comeback, wins 3-2Dort Event Center 1 Sun, Sep 23, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Soo Eagles survived a determined comeback attempt by the Michigan Warriors on the way to a 3-2 win. A goal by Jared VanWormer put Soo up 3-1 in the third period, but Michigan pulled to within one on Zack Szajner's tally 13:07 into the third period. The Eagles' penalty kill excelled, as Soo gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays. The Eagles stifled the Warriors' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Soo additionally got points from Eric Rivard, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Nathan Harris also scored for Soo. Other players who recorded assists for Soo were Alexander Taulien, who had two and Cody Von Reuden and Mike Sabatini, who contributed one a piece. Michigan excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. With 43 shots on target during the contest, the Warriors exceeded the 25.2 shots they average per game this year. Michigan was helped by Brock Labelle, who had one goal. Labelle scored 4:13 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Zach OHara assisted on the tally. More assists for Michigan came via Colin Larkin and Paul Sorenson, who each chipped in one. Tyler Marble recorded 41 saves for Soo. The Eagles incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Trevor Gorsuch made 22 saves for the Warriors on 25 shots. Michigan incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
