Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Wichita Falls Wildcats defeated the Corpus Christi IceRays in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO). The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams. Corpus Christi got a shootout goal from Eric Purcell. In addition to the clincher, Wichita Falls got a shootout goal from Colin Staub.The Wildcats put 39 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.1 they average per game. Wichita Falls was helped by Oliver Janzen, who registered one goal. Janzen scored on the power play 11:39 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wichita Falls. The Wildcats had gotten the advantage when the IceRays' John Roisum was sent off for roughing. Patrick Yudez assisted on the tally. Nick Farmer also scored for Wichita Falls. Other players who recorded assists for Wichita Falls were Tyler Ledford, who had one. Corpus Christi forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The IceRays had been averaging 29.0 minutes in penalties per game. The 32 shots that Corpus Christi put on net surpassed the IceRays' average of 25.9 shots per game this season. Corpus Christi was helped by Phil Pietroniro, who had one goal. Pietroniro scored on the power play 17:56 into the second period to make the score 2-2. A slashing penalty on Eliot Grauer had put the IceRays on the power play. Ian McGilvrey picked up the assist. Corpus Christi also got a goal from Jonathan Grebosky as well. In addition, Corpus Christi received assists from Andrew Paras, who had one and Perry DArrisso, who had two. Evan Cowley recorded 30 saves for Wichita Falls. The Wildcats totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Corpus Christi's Dillon Kelley stopped 36 shots out of the 38 that he faced. The IceRays registered one goal on two power play opportunities.
