Johansson, Kenai River blank Springfield, 2-0Nelson Center Sat, Sep 22, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Gustaf Johansson recorded a shutout against the Springfield Jr. Blues as the Kenai River Brown Bears picked up a 2-0 win. Kenai River was sparked by Lucas Kohls, who tallied one goal. Kohls scored 9:25 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Kenai River. The Brown Bears put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Springfield to score on any of its five power plays. With 44 shots on target during the contest, Kenai River exceeded the 31.3 shots it averages per game this year. Kenai River also got a goal from Chris Nuth as well. More assists for Kenai River came via Dylan Meier and Brad LeLievre, who contributed one a piece. The Jr. Blues' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Kenai River power plays. Springfield did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Jr. Blues put an average of 2.2 pucks into the net per game. Springfield's offense was clicking better than usual and put 41 shots on goal during the game, better than the 29.0 shots per game it averages. The Jr. Blues were led by Mike Fazio, who took eight shots. The Brown Bears' Johansson stopped 41 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Kenai River incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Ryan Kellenberger rejected 42 shots on goal for Springfield. The Jr. Blues incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
