Janesville squeaks by Fairbanks, 3-2Janesville Ice Arena Fri, Sep 21, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Janesville Jets gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Austin Vieth at 12:16 of the third period. Janesville pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 16 penalty minutes. The Jets were sparked by Vieth, who tallied one goal and one assist. By firing 29 shots on goal, Janesville exceeded the 17.6 shots it averages per game this year. Janesville additionally got points from Jason Ford, who also registered one goal and one assist. Eric Carlson also scored for Janesville. Other players who recorded assists for Janesville were Zac Avolio, who had two and Jack Billings and Matt Salituro, who each chipped in one. Fairbanks stifled the Jets' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. With 22 shots on target during the contest, the Ice Dogs exceeded the 19.6 shots they average per game this year. Fairbanks was helped by Devin Loe, who finished with one goal. Loe scored on the power play 9:41 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Fairbanks. An elbowing penalty on Vieth had put the Ice Dogs on the power play. Kyle Lee picked up the assist. Fairbanks also got a goal from Robin Hoglund as well. More assists for Fairbanks came via Logan Wendling, who had one and Nick Hinz, who had two. Brock Kautz recorded 20 saves for Janesville. The Jets registered zero goals on three power play opportunities. Steve Perry made 26 saves for Fairbanks on 29 shots. The Ice Dogs incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
