Texas vanquishes Coulee Region in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Texas Tornado defeated the Coulee Region Chill in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams. Coulee Region's shootout goal was scored by Travis Underwood. In addition to the clincher, Texas got a shootout goal from Justin Greenberg.

The Tornado saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Texas made the score 3-1 on a goal by Greenberg at 57 seconds in the third period. The Chill evened things up at 3-3 on a goal by Derek Smith at 18:11 in the third period.

By firing 38 shots on goal, the Tornado exceeded the 33.3 shots they average per game this year.

Texas was helped by Brandon Hawkins, who registered two goals. Hawkins scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Texas. The Tornado earned a power play opportunity when Underwood was put in the box for holding. Greenberg assisted on the tally. Hawkins' next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 Texas with 11:25 left in the second period. Texas had gotten the advantage when Coulee Region's Andy Faust was sent off for hooking. CJ Reuschlein picked up the assist. Texas additionally got points from Greenberg, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Texas received assists from Nick Neville, who had one and Anthony Mousseau, who had two.

The Chill relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Mac Jansen, Faust and Tyler Klein took 15 of the team's 28 shots.

More assists for Coulee Region came via Jake Kauppila, who had one and Brady Riesgraf, who had three.

Hunter Leisner rejected 25 shots on goal for the Tornado. Texas incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Aaron Davis recorded 34 saves for Coulee Region. The Chill incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
