Fairbanks holds on for 5-4 win against MichiganSchwan SR-4 Sat, Sep 15, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Fairbanks Ice Dogs survived a determined comeback attempt by the Michigan Warriors on the way to a 5-4 win. Fairbanks made the score 5-3 on a goal by Colton Wolter at 6:13 in the third period, and Michigan got as close as 5-4 when Zack Szajner scored 18:15 into the third period. In a losing effort, the Warriors were sparked by Shawn Badali, who finished with two goals. Badali scored the first of his two goals at 5:25 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Michigan. Colin Larkin provided the assist. Badali's next tally made the score 3-3 with 45 seconds left in the second period. Levi Erkkila assisted on the tally. Fairbanks also got points from Patrick Newell, who also registered one goal and one assist, Jakob Romo, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Jacob Hetz, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Fairbanks also got a goal from Kyle Lee as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fairbanks were Garret Clemment, who had two and Doug Rose, Jordan Freberg, Logan Wendling, and Devin Loe, who each chipped in one. Michigan's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Fairbanks power plays. Ryan Dougherty also scored for Michigan. In addition, Michigan received assists from Jake Faiella, Jimmy Peplinski, Martin Gruse, Zachery Mudge, and Jake Hopfner, who contributed one a piece. Steve Perry recorded 16 saves for the Ice Dogs. Fairbanks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Warriors' Trevor Gorsuch stopped 20 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Michigan incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
