Fresno wins tough contest against Aberdeen, 4-3Schwan SR-4 Fri, Sep 14, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Fresno Monsters escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Aberdeen Wings. Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Drew Aspinwall's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Fresno got the win thanks to a great game by Mitchell Snyder, who had one goal and two assists. Snyder scored 10:32 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Fresno. Zack Holstrom picked up the assist. The Monsters put 28 shots on net during the contest, more than the 23.6 they average per game. Fresno also got points from Sean Kalbak, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Holstrom, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Fresno were Newton Fuller, Kyle Buffardi, and Andrew Herlofsky, who contributed one a piece. Aberdeen averages 24.3 shots on goal per game, but only sent 17 pucks on net against Fresno. The Wings were helped by Joseph Sullivan, who had one goal. Sullivan scored on the power play 17:25 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Aberdeen had gained a power play chance when Kyle Sucher was whistled for holding. Justin Parizek assisted on the tally. Aberdeen additionally got points from Parizek, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Aberdeen also got a goal from Heinz Koster as well. In addition, Aberdeen received assists from Peter Krieger, who had two and Liam McGing, Steven Johnson, and John Forseth, who each chipped in one. Macauley Haight made 14 saves for the Monsters on 17 shots. Fresno incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Marcus Zelzer recorded 24 saves for the Wings. Aberdeen incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
