Kalamazoo downs Coulee Region, 5-2

Nick Kovalchik registered one point to lead the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings to a 5-2 victory over the Coulee Region Chill.

Kalamazoo's offense rang up 32 shots on Coulee Region's net.

Kalamazoo also had goals scored by Robbie Payne, who had two and Taylor Burden and Trevor Boyd, who scored one goal each. In addition, Kalamazoo received assists from Mark Esshaki, Matt Wurst, Josh Dangel, Danny Hamburg, Jacob McDowell, and Dalton Carter, who each chipped in one and Kyle Gattelaro and Brett Beauvais, who contributed two a piece.

The Chill put 32 shots on net during the contest, more than the 22.1 they average per game.

Coulee Region was helped by James Hughes, who tallied one goal. Hughes scored 17:11 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Derek Smith assisted on the tally. Travis Underwood also scored for Coulee Region. More assists for Coulee Region came via Mike McMahon and Matt Williams, who each chipped in one.

The Jr. K-Wings' Nicholas Stuart stopped 30 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Kalamazoo incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Blake Cates recorded 27 saves for the Chill. Coulee Region totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
