Fairbanks survives penalties, beats Odessa, 3-0

Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Fairbanks Ice Dogs were able to defeat the Odessa Jackalopes, 3-0.

Fairbanks was paced by Devin Loe, who racked up one goal and one assist. Loe scored 16:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fairbanks. Kyle Lee provided the assist.

The Ice Dogs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Odessa to score on any of its eight power plays. Fairbanks' defensive play was more effective than usual against the Jackalopes. The Ice Dogs average 2.1 goals allowed per game. Fairbanks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

Fairbanks also got points from Lee, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Patrick Newell also scored for Fairbanks. In addition, Fairbanks received assists from Ryan McNeely, Curran Klein, and Jayson Angus, who each chipped in one.

Odessa could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Jackalopes average 2.3 goals per game. Odessa was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 20 penalty minutes.

The Jackalopes were led by Tyler Cayemberg, who took three shots.

The Ice Dogs' Steve Perry stopped 20 shots out of the 20 that he faced. Fairbanks registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Blake Wojtala recorded 22 saves for Odessa.
