Fresno hangs on, beats Port Huron 3-2

The Fresno Monsters took the lead against the Port Huron Fighting Falcons in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-2 victory.

James Mathias provided Fresno with the game-winning tally when he scored 18:01 into the the first period. Mikhail Bushinski assisted on the tally.

The Monsters were led by Jordan Haskell, who had one goal. Haskell scored on the power play 7:10 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Fresno. Fresno had taken the advantage when Port Huron's Brandon Lukezic got sent off for cross checking. Gordon Wells picked up the assist.

The Monsters' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Port Huron power plays. The 24 shots that Fresno put on net surpassed the Monsters' average of 21.5 shots per game this season.

Fresno also got a goal from Kyle Buffardi as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fresno were Kyle Sucher, who had two.

The Fighting Falcons put 40 shots on net during the contest, more than the 30.0 they average per game.

Port Huron was led by Rick DeRosa, who grabbed one goal and one assist. DeRosa scored short handed 4:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Huron. A hooking call on Easton Powers put the Fighting Falcons on the penalty kill. Ryan Nick assisted on the tally. Nick Horne also scored for Port Huron. More assists for Port Huron came via Jonathan Kopacka, who had one.

Macauley Haight rejected 38 shots on goal for Fresno. The Monsters incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Alex Blankenburg recorded 21 saves for Port Huron. The Fighting Falcons incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
