Pikes Peak Miners 18U uses shootout to best Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U, 4-3

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Pikes Peak Miners 18U defeated Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U in a shootout 4-3.

The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout. Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U's shootout goals were scored by Max Mclain and Troy Loggins. Pikes Peak Miners 18U's other shootout goals were scored by Nicholas Bower and Derek Famula.

Pikes Peak Miners 18U overcame a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Pikes Peak Miners 18U trailed 3-0 after a goal by Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U's Mclain at 15:12 in the first period. Pikes Peak Miners 18U tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Adam Shaner at 14:19 in the second period.

Pikes Peak Miners 18U's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U power plays. Pikes Peak Miners 18U's offense rang up 34 shots on Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U's net.

Luc Gradisar also scored for Pikes Peak Miners 18U. More assists for Pikes Peak Miners 18U came via Jeremiah Reinhart, Bower, Drew Punnett, and Connor Hutchins, who each chipped in one.

Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U kept Pikes Peak Miners 18U's goalie busy throughout the game, and Daniel Kowalski made 30 saves on 33 shots.

Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U was helped by Nicholas Katzaroff, who finished with one goal. Katzaroff scored 13:19 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U. Doc Gentzler assisted on the tally. Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U also got a goal from Loggins as well. In addition, Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U received assists from Orand Werenka, Max Kilkuts, Cody Page, Marcus Mollica, and Robert Tirea, who contributed one a piece.

Pikes Peak Miners 18U incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Kenny Eakle made 30 saves for Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U on 33 shots. Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
