Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Indiana Jr. Ice 16U defeated Phoenix Firebirds 16U in a shootout 4-3.

The shootout featured 12 attempts between both teams. Phoenix Firebirds 16U's shootout goals were scored by Jason Smith and Griffen Dill. In addition to the clincher, Indiana Jr. Ice 16U got shootout goals from Brandon Bornkamp and Bryan Tinney.

Indiana Jr. Ice 16U overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Indiana Jr. Ice 16U fell behind 3-1 after a short handed goal by Phoenix Firebirds 16U's Aleksei Gendron at 4:27 in the third period. Indiana Jr. Ice 16U tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Kyle Craddick at 15:50 in the third period.

Indiana Jr. Ice 16U made Phoenix Firebirds 16U's netminders to work between the pipes, ripping 34 shots and forcing 30 saves. Christian Brown made 15 stops and Oliver Boerst made 15. Indiana Jr. Ice 16U put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Phoenix Firebirds 16U to score on any of its four power plays.

Indiana Jr. Ice 16U was helped by Tinney, who finished with one goal. Tinney scored 15:32 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Phoenix Firebirds 16U. Bornkamp assisted on the tally. Indiana Jr. Ice 16U additionally got points from Brock James, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Indiana Jr. Ice 16U received assists from Danny Mateja, Ryan MacKellar, and Andrew Augustine, who contributed one a piece.

Phoenix Firebirds 16U's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Indiana Jr. Ice 16U power plays.
