Phoenix Firebirds 16U uses shootout to best St. Louis Selects 16U, 3-2

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Phoenix Firebirds 16U defeated St. Louis Selects 16U in a shootout 3-2.

The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout. St. Louis Selects 16U's shootout goal was scored by Travis Barrett. Phoenix Firebirds 16U also got a shootout goal from Alex Falk.

Phoenix Firebirds 16U excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Phoenix Firebirds 16U was helped by Adam Curwin, who registered one goal. Curwin scored on the power play 5:17 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Phoenix Firebirds 16U. Phoenix Firebirds 16U earned a power play opportunity when Joey Rosa was put in the box for interference. Spencer Newton assisted on the tally. Phoenix Firebirds 16U also got a goal from Carter Righi as well. Other players who recorded assists for Phoenix Firebirds 16U were Jason Smith, Quinn Thibeault, and Reise Kieffer, who each chipped in one.

St. Louis Selects 16U was helped by Shane Quinn, who had one goal. Quinn scored 5:35 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Austin Rueschhoff provided the assist. Mats Kozicz also scored for St. Louis Selects 16U. More assists for St. Louis Selects 16U came via Tyler Hoffmann and Barrett, who contributed one a piece.

Christian Brown recorded 21 saves for Phoenix Firebirds 16U. Phoenix Firebirds 16U incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. St. Louis Selects 16U's Zach Young stopped 18 shots out of the 20 that he faced.
