MacKellar lifts Indiana Jr. Ice 16U over Phoenix Firebirds 16U, 5-2

Indiana Jr. Ice 16U had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over Phoenix Firebirds 16U.

Indiana Jr. Ice 16U's penalty kill excelled, as Indiana Jr. Ice 16U gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

Indiana Jr. Ice 16U took advantage of Phoenix Firebirds 16U's penalties, tallying three goals off of three power play opportunities. Indiana Jr. Ice 16U was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 16 penalty minutes.

Indiana Jr. Ice 16U was helped by Ryan MacKellar, who registered two goals. MacKellar scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 14:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Indiana Jr. Ice 16U. Indiana Jr. Ice 16U had gained a power play chance when Reise Kieffer was whistled for boarding. Brock James assisted on the tally. MacKellar's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 Indiana Jr. Ice 16U with 12:11 left in the second period. Indiana Jr. Ice 16U also got points from Kyle Craddick, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Brandon Bornkamp, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Indiana Jr. Ice 16U also got a goal from Sam Markwood as well. In addition, Indiana Jr. Ice 16U received assists from Triston Theriot, George Pippen, and Ryan Jones, who contributed one a piece.

Phoenix Firebirds 16U kept Indiana Jr. Ice 16U's goalie busy throughout the game, and Adam Conkling made 29 saves on 31 shots.

Phoenix Firebirds 16U was helped by Marcus Templeman, who tallied one goal and one assist. Templeman scored on the power play 9:21 into the third period to make the score 5-2 Indiana Jr. Ice 16U. Phoenix Firebirds 16U had gotten the advantage when Indiana Jr. Ice 16U's Markwood was sent off for hooking. Griffen Dill picked up the assist. Oleksii Afanasiev also scored for Phoenix Firebirds 16U. More assists for Phoenix Firebirds 16U came via Jack DAnna, who had one.

Phoenix Firebirds 16U's Christian Brown stopped 25 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Phoenix Firebirds 16U incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
