Wellington survives penalties, beats Whitby, 3-0

The Whitby Fury failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Wellington Dukes shook off a number of penalties to win, 3-0.

Wellington was led by Joe McKeown, who racked up one goal. McKeown scored on the power play 1:56 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Wellington. The Dukes had gained a power play chance when Kevin Stevens was whistled for hooking. Kyle Paat picked up the assist.

Wellington stifled Whitby's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Dukes' defensive play was more effective than usual against the Fury. Wellington allows 2.7 goals per game. The Dukes' offense rang up 37 shots on Whitby's net.

Wellington also got a goal from Cam Nicoll as well. In addition, Wellington received assists from Craig Campbell, Parker Wood, Josh Finkelstein, Spencer Turcotte, and Nik Coric, who contributed one a piece.

The Fury were held below their usual level of production. Whitby averages 3.1 goals per game.

Hayden Lavigne made 24 saves for Wellington on 24 shots. The Dukes incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Fury's Josh Hickey stopped 34 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Whitby incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
