Trenton rips Cobourg, 7-3

The Trenton Golden Hawks had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-3 win over the Cobourg Cougars.

Sammy Banga quarterbacked Trenton's offense to perfection and bagged four assists in the Golden Hawks' win over Cobourg.

Trenton pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 24 penalty minutes.

The Golden Hawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cougars to score on any of their seven power plays. Trenton outdid its season average for goals scored. The Golden Hawks average 4.1 goals per game.

Trenton additionally got points from Erlich Doerksen, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Truman Landowski, who also had one goal and one assist, and Krystian Yorke, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Trenton also had goals scored by Nolan Martin, who had two and Josh Timpano and Brady Wiffen, who scored one goal each. In addition, Trenton received assists from Ori Abramson, Robbie Hall, and Nick Marinac, who contributed one a piece and Jordan Minello and Dillon Warner, who each chipped in two.

Cobourg forced Trenton goalie Victor Adamo to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

The Cougars were led by Justin Danforth, who registered one goal and one assist. Danforth scored 3:27 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Trenton. Corey Helliwell picked up the assist. Cobourg also got a goal from Jake Emilio as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cobourg were Rylee McKinnon and Connor Armour, who contributed one a piece.

The Golden Hawks' Adamo stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Trenton registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Nathan Perry made 23 saves for Cobourg on 30 shots. The Cougars incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
