St. Michaels vanquishes Milton in shootout, 5-4 (2-1 SO)Milton Memorial Arena Fri, Feb 22, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the St. Michaels Buzzers defeated the Milton Icehawks in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO). The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. Milton's shootout goal was scored by Brad Kobryn. In addition to the clincher, St. Michaels got a shootout goal from Matt Galati.The Buzzers came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. St. Michaels was down 4-1 after a goal by the Icehawks' Jonathon Buttitta at 8:50 in the third period. The Buzzers knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by David Italiano at 13:57 in the third period. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:14 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts. Milton was unable to stop St. Michaels from sending pucks towards the net, and the Buzzers eventually piled up 44 shots on goal. Troy Josephs also scored for St. Michaels. Other players who recorded assists for St. Michaels were Patrick McCarron, who had two, Michael Neville, who had three, and Mike Lansdowne and Bron Loiselle, who each chipped in one. The Icehawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Milton forced St. Michaels goalie Adrian Ignagni to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. The Icehawks were led by Shane Bennett, who had one goal and three assists. Bennett scored 3:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Milton. Buttitta assisted on the tally. Milton additionally got points from Buttitta, who also registered two goals and one assist and Daniel Holt, who also tallied one goal and two assists. More assists for Milton came via Tyler Burns and Austin Kosack, who contributed one a piece. Ignagni recorded 28 saves for the Buzzers. St. Michaels ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. For the Buzzers, Joseph Berton and Loiselle were ejected from the contest. Benjamin Blacker(APMM) made 39 saves for Milton on 43 shots. The Icehawks totaled 31 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. Team's Tye Campbell and Daniel Poutscongas were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
