Aurora uses shootout to best Newmarket, 5-4 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Aurora Tigers defeated the Newmarket Hurricanes in a shootout 5-4 (2-0 SO).

The shootout featured five attempts between both teams. In addition to the clincher, Aurora got a shootout goal from Robert Angiolella.

The Tigers overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Aurora fell behind 4-2 after a goal by Newmarket's Ian Farrell at 16:44 in the first period. The Tigers tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Taylor McCloy at 14:59 in the third period.

Aurora managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Tigers ended up below its season average of 12.0 penalty minutes per game. Aurora kept the Hurricanes' goalie busy throughout the game, and Lucas Peressini made 34 saves on 39 shots.

The Tigers were led by Daniel Clairmont, who tallied one goal and one assist. Clairmont scored 8:08 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Aurora. Aurora additionally got points from McCloy, who also registered one goal and one assist and Dylan Sikura, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Aurora also got a goal from Adam Moody as well. Other players who recorded assists for Aurora were Dylan Wallace, Adam DiBrina, and Mihkel Poldma, who each chipped in one.

Newmarket made Aurora's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, ripping 39 shots and forcing 35 saves. Kevin Entmaa made 21 stops and Brett Sinclair made 14.

Newmarket also got points from Taylor Chick, who also had one goal and one assist and Justin Maiolino, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Ryan Johnson also scored for Newmarket. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Thomas Beretta, who had one and Sean Walker and Brycin Morrison, who each chipped in two.

The Tigers registered one goal on two power play opportunities. The Hurricanes incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
