Cobourg downs Stouffville, 2-1

Kenzie Smith tallied one point to lead the Cobourg Cougars to a 2-1 victory over the Stouffville Spirit.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:14 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Cobourg forced Stouffville goalie Daniel Mannella to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Jake Emilio also scored for Cobourg. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Taylor Gauld, who had two and Colbie Andrews and Connor Armour, who contributed one a piece.

The Spirit were led by Peyton Backus, who scored the team's only goal. Backus scored 5:20 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Nathanael Halbert provided the assist.

Nathan Perry recorded 23 saves for the Cougars. Cobourg totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For the Cougars, Rylee McKinnon was ejected from the game. Mannella rejected 34 shots on goal for Stouffville. The Spirit totaled 33 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Stouffville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Joseph Deveny was ejected from the game.
